J.D. began guiding for steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula in the mid-’70s and began his Montana guiding in 1979 while working for Bud Lilly in West Yellowstone. J.D. met his wife Sandy there, and together they raised 2 sons. JD divided his time between summer guiding in Montana and Yellowstone Park and winter Steelhead fishing on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, the Grande Ronde, and the Snake River area. JD has also guided in Alaska at lodges in the Katmai region and as a captain on a charter boat out of Sitka. After 40 years of year-round guiding JD returned to Montana to enjoy his summers fishing the trout streams in the southwest. J.D. has 45 years of experience guiding as a patient and knowledgeable instructor a passionate and professional angler and guide.
