Tom Smith started guiding anglers in the ’70s on the Madison River and in Yellowstone Park out of West Yellowstone and soon after splitting his time down in Florida guiding for Tarpon, Permit, and Bonefish. In 1998 along with his wife Mary, they started Backcountry Angler in Dillon, MT. There are few guides left with the knowledge and experience of Tom Smith and more importantly the desire to share that with anglers of all skill levels. He knows the rivers of SW Montana like the back of his hand, and we are lucky to have him on our staff. After a day or week with Tom, you will have a better understanding of the ins and outs of fly fishing and will be truly hooked for life.
